Veterans Upward Bound Washington, DC, is pleased to welcome the DC Office of the Chief Technology Officer for a hands-on workshop designed to help veterans strengthen essential digital skills for school, work, and everyday technology use.
This session will introduce participants to cybersecurity fundamentals, including how to recognize common online threats, protect personal information, create stronger passwords, identify suspicious emails, and use safe digital practices when accessing online accounts and services. Participants will also learn practical file formatting and file management skills, including how to organize digital documents, name files clearly, save and share files appropriately, and prepare documents for academic, career, and professional use.
The workshop is designed for veterans who want to build confidence using technology, improve digital organization, and better protect themselves online. No advanced technology experience is required.
Participants will learn how to:
• Identify basic cybersecurity risks and warning signs
• Strengthen passwords and protect online accounts
• Recognize suspicious links, emails, and attachments
• Organize files and folders for easier access
• Use clear file naming conventions
• Format and manage documents for school, employment, and professional communication
• Apply practical digital habits that support academic and career success
